Triumphant Day!

On October 27, 2006 I made a bet with a colleague. Today is 1/31/07 and marks the end of the bet.

It was a busy and hectic Friday afternoon following a busy and hectic morning. I was emailing back and forth with a colleague about a frustrating situation with another colleague. I had assessed the situation and drawn my own conclusion and was solid in my conclusion yet she continued to encourage me to reevaluate the situation and hope for "lemonade." I have not always been the best judge of character but I come from a family of people that are very good at it. I tend to be a bit wishy-washy when making judgement calls on another persons character because I always want to see *the best* in others. I don't know why I was so convicted about this situation but I wasn't the least bit wishy-washy. I was incredibly convinced that I was right so when she presented the following challenge, I was in!

"So this is what happens in my life: I assess people slowly, giving benefit of the doubt for a long time. Other people assess those same people very quickly (you and my daughter), and while I think there's a rush to judgment, lo and behold, the great majority of the time, you/they are right. With that said, loser pays for the drinks. Let's see who is right on 1/30/07, and if I'm wrong, I buy yours and vice versa."

So today is judgement day, 1/30/07, and I was right. I have won the bet and in just 2 1/2 short hours I will be enjoying drinks and appetizers while I gloat a bit. :-)

The unfortunate thing about the situation is that I would be much happier at work had I lost this bet.

End of the month catch up

I have been lousy about writing lately. It's not from lack of news or interesting things to share. I often think to myself that "I need to blog about that" but then the thought of getting my computer and writing is just too much and the desire fades.

It was also complicated by a great sense of being overwhelmed this month. January has been insane and it hasn't been until this week that I finally feel that I have everything under control. I don't know if it was getting back into a "normal" routine after the holiday season, increased responsibility at work, school or what but I have been feeling disorganized and discombobulated, like I am treading water and barely keeping myself above water. But this week has been better, I am finally feeling in control again.

So without further ado, some happenings and thoughts from my world.

I have decided that I dislike the work Puyallup.

==========

As I usually do on Tuesday evenings, I watched Gilmore Girls last night. It's been a rough season for *my girls* with a change in network and writing teams leaving many of the episodes at the beginning of the season flat and very un-Gilmore. I almost wrote about this after watching last weeks episode but didn't want to jinx the remainder of the season but the last 2 episodes have been a drastic improvement. The zany quick wit of the characters is back especially with Lorelei's "monkey, monkey, underpants" speech last week. And then last nights episode made me cry, something that hasn't happened it quite some time. :-)

==========

I had a *bad stomach day* yesterday. I have not had one in a REALLY long time and forgot how miserable they were. Bad days are usually the result of eating something that I shouldn't have. When I was having them on a regular basis I was really careful about everything that I ate, but since my system has returned to a "normal" I had to really think about what it may have been. The only thing that I consumed that was "out of the ordinary" was cranberry juice. I didn't think that it could be the culprit but after a little investigation on the Internet I think it may be.

I am not a huge fan of fruit juice in general because it usually leads to a painful acidic stomach pain but decided that something mild like Cranberry juice would be fine. I won't be doing that again for quite some time.

==========

I went to Costco after work last night and my refrigerator is packed! I have enough burritos, chicken pot pie, chicken breasts, and veggies to last me quite some time. I am glad that I left the frozen food section when I did because I don't think that I could fit another thing in my freezer.

==========

I continue to search unsuccessfully for a pair of headphones that don't hurt my ears/head. I really hate the ear buds that fit inside your ears. I don't know if I have small ear opening or what but they never fit properly and they hurt. I really like the kind that go around the back of the head but the recent pair that I purchased squeezes too tightly and gives me a headache. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

That's all for now. Happy Hump Day!

Well this is right on!

Today's horoscope from my desk calendar. It reads, "In this climate it's easier to become irked about a situation than it is to leave it alone. However, becoming irked will do nothing but tunr it into a honking federal case."

Possible Curmudgeon Harrassement

A couple of weeks ago I signed up for a subscription to Seattle Mayor Nickels' email newsletter. I wanted to keep abreast of happenings in Seattle and read his take of issues pertaining to the city. I have received one newsletter so far but then this morning I was unnerved to find an email in my in-box from the Mayor's Public Disclosure office.

It seems that a man by the name of Keith Gormezano has requested the list of subscribers to the Mayor's newsletter. The list is available to anyone who asks for it but it seems as if Mr. Gormezano has requested it in the past and then has used the list to send unsolicited email. Nancy Craver of the Mayor's office stated, in the email, "Mr. Keith Gormezano requested this list in August of 2006 and subsequently used this list to send a personal email to all 2,300 subscribers. Although we are required to provide this list upon request, I wanted to inform you of the request as well as remind you of some options that you have to protect your personal information." Ms. Craver goes on to suggest blocking the known addresses used by Mr. Gormezano.

I naturally assumed that Mr. Gormezano would use the address to send out some type of politically minded solicitation. But after completing a google search on Mr. Gormezano I am not so sure. The initial hit was a link to his personal website. I spend a long time looking at the contents of the pages but my initial impression is that he quite the curmudgeon. Things I learned about him include:

  • He is a self proclaimed Freelance Administrative Assistant.
  • He was once a member of Mensa.
  • He only donates money to causes where he gets something like a plaque or brick.
  • He has a bizarre "cents" of humor.
  • He spent a great deal of time in 1986 creating a fake company in order to be listed on numerous lists.
  • He's used up 75% of his allotted 20,480 KB of space of his yahoo group site to post legal documents about a former employers financial disclosures.

It seems that Mr. Gormezano spends the bulk of his time bothering and harassing others so the thought of him sending me unsolicited email make me angry. However part of me (the part who can help but laugh at it all) can't wait to see what he has to say. I will keep you posted.

Random Friday Thoughts

It's been an interesting and long week. Some happenings from my world.

==========

The Seattle Boat Show is this weekend. They have a show twice a year in Seattle and when they do they set up temporary docks on the south end of Lake Union and surround them with boats. The boats began arriving early in the week and by Wednesday they had mostly arrived. Wednesday was also the night they turned *the lights* on. They have 3 annoyingly bright spotlights to light up the boats (I am sure for security reasons) but they are really bright and really annoying.

==========

I finally got the Christmas tree taken down. I would think it super-tacky that it was still up on the 20-something day of January except the lady across the street still has her tree proudly displayed in her window with absolutely no indication that she plans to take it down.

==========

It turns out that Pit Bulls are much more annoying than Terriers.

==========

I get very upset when people take advantage of the fact that I am nice and accommodating.

==========

WOO HOO! Just got a PO for 2 pieces of equipment!

==========

I have seen news stories about the different lottery scams that have been circulating for quite some time via email but I had yet to receive one until early this week. My email address must have popped up on all of the lottery schemers lists this week because I have received nearly a dozen offers.

Also, they are addressed with some kind of notation about friendship in the greeting like "Hello old friend" "My dear friend"

I don't think that wanting to rip me off qualifies you as my friend.

==========

The lymphatic system is fascinating to me.

==========

Well that's all for now. Happy Friday!

What else?

I received an invitation from Don to join Twitter last night. I always join the sites he invites me to join and often times end up loving them. I spent a while "getting my Twitter on" last night and think it's going to be another fun one. If I recall correctly I think the first one he invited me to join was upcoming.org which I joined because he had posted an event that we were both attending. I thought it was fun but didn't think that I would get that into it. Yet now, I love it. And when I am wondering what is going on around town it's one of the first places that I look.

After logging off I began to give some thought to these sites and realized that a whole lot of my life is tracked online and not just by blogging but by random websites including:

  • The list of places that I want to visit is tracked at 43 Places.
  • Articles that I find interesting on my Bloglines Feed are tracked on my Bloglines Blog.
  • People that I dream of meeting are tracked at 43 People.
  • Pictures that I take are stored at Flickr.
  • Songs that I listen to are tracked on LastFM.
  • Things that want to accomplish are tracked at 43 Things.
  • Items that I want to own are tracked on my Amazon Wish List.
  • My mood is tracked on imood.
  • Things I have consumed are tracked on All Consuming. (yet I have not done a good job keeping this one up to date)
  • The "lists" that I am working on are tracked on Lists of Bests.
  • Places that I visit are tacked at Dodgeball.
  • And now random and fleeting thoughts about my daily activities are tracked at Twitter.

So this begs that question, what next? What else can possibly be tracked by a fun and interactive website? I am not sure, but I am pretty sure I will join!

I love this...

I have seen this before but stumbled across it today and it made me smile! :-D

Free White Jugs

I received this following email this morning and it made me chuckle, it's so random.

Hello,

These jugs must go by end of today. There are about 50 jugs with caps, white, and 1 gallon in size. They are in the warehouse in front of the R&D doors. Help yourself to as many as you like.
